Maveli Nadu=Developed country
The perks of being with Malayali friends is that my ears
were introduced to a secular devotional hymn on the great king, Mahabali. Mahabali,
as the legendary tale goes, was a King, who was highly charitable. Being so
charitable led to his excellence. Lord Vishnu took the incarnation of Vamanan,
a dwarf and approached the King for three feet land. The King unsurprisingly
granted the latter’s wish. However, surprisingly
Vamanan rose to the sky and took his Vishwaroopam. One foot (not 12 inches)
covered the sky and the other the land. The third was on the King’s head and
the King was pushed under the ground. People believe that Maveli Thambrante
would visit their houses and feast upon their sumptuous ‘Onam Sadhya’.
The song that I specified earlier is ‘Maveli naadu vaneedum Kalam’. This song proudly speaks of the
Utopian tenure of Mahabali Thambrante. The
very first time, I listened to the song, it was only my economics class but in
a melodious manner. That reminded me of characteristics of a developed country.
As usual my Indian pride grew in me.
Maveli Naadu vaanidum kaalam
Manushyarellarum onnu pole
A developed country
is subject to treat all her citizens alike. Mahabali is not an exception. People
under his kingship treated each other alike. There was no discrimination among
them.

In a developed country, there is a
large scope for medical aids. Sanitation and health of the people are taken
into consideration always. Diseases come in places where the state takes the least
care to prevent diseases. Maveli’s reign
had no such things called curiosity and disease. Obviously, child mortality
rates must be kept very low but Maveli Thambrante managed to keep it nil. People
have access to fundamental health care. This shields them from getting to the
verge of death. Low death rate could be observed.

The Tamil lands are divided into five
based on their landscapes. Four of the lands turn into Paalai nilam (barren
lands) only during misrule and post-war life. This leads to misdeeds. In a
developed country, under a sufficient life, nobody would care to cheat or steal
or any sort of misdeed. Maveli’s land is self-sufficient and needed no citizen
to plunder.
Nalla mazha peyyum vendum neram
Nalla polella vilavum cherum
Environmental health is always stable
in developed countries. A country that is well watered is blessed with
abundance in harvest. Citizens of a developed country have sufficient water. Rain
being the source of good water blesses the people with good health. The state is
ready to cater her citizens with food always. The land also had good rains due
to the harmony in nature in that place. Due to the rain, Maveli’s land could
satisfy something... what is that? Hunger... yes ( because those people did not
know that)

Education forms a vital role in the
course of life of all the citizens of a developed country. Everyone under the
rule of Maveli is equipped with the knowledge of art, Vedas and music. Being educated
makes them stand tall in their qualities.
Bhoolokam
okkeyum onnu pole
Universal treatment of the citizens
alike is the integral part of leadership in the realm of a state. All the world was the same for Maveli.
Aamodathode vasikkum

People in a state live happily and are deprived of perils
only when the state is developed. Maveli’s people dwelled in a happy and
danger-free zone.
Maveli’s naadu = developed country.
Hence proved.
May this Thirovonam fill each house with ultimate joy and
prosperity. Maveli will definitely come to all the houses and enjoy the
pookolam, sadhyam and kalis.....
“Maavin komberum oru poovali kuyile
Maaveli thambrante
