'A'NEET'A' suicide

‘A’ NEET ‘A’ suicide A few days back everyone was moved with the issue of Anitha killing herself. The word ‘a’ means no in Sanskrit. Ashok means no worries. Ashardoma means no devotion. ‘Anita’ pronounced to me like ‘A’NEET’A’. Anitha wanted no improper NEET.  NEET has plural opinions. From one viewpoint, it is better to hold NEET while the other demands a discard of the same. NEET has frozen the mobilization of black money. Almost hard workers and deservers get into medicine. Many cases come, where a biology student is pushed to take up medicine to have prestige in the society.....for their parents. Those parents hardly hesitate to cast the holy and precious money to create a doctor who is not even aware of spotting the organs in the anatomy. Parents have to understand that medicine is not a business but a service. Paying some lakhs will not become a compensation o...

Maveli Nadu=Developed country

The perks of being with Malayali friends is that my ears were introduced to a secular devotional hymn on the great king, Mahabali. Mahabali, as the legendary tale goes, was a King, who was highly charitable. Being so charitable led to his excellence. Lord Vishnu took the incarnation of Vamanan, a dwarf and approached the King for three feet land. The King unsurprisingly granted the latter’s wish.  However, surprisingly Vamanan rose to the sky and took his Vishwaroopam. One foot (not 12 inches) covered the sky and the other the land. The third was on the King’s head and the King was pushed under the ground. People believe that Maveli Thambrante would visit their houses and feast upon their sumptuous ‘Onam Sadhya’. The song that I specified earlier is ‘Maveli naadu vaneedum Kalam’ . This song proudly speaks of the Utopian tenure of Mahabali Thambrante.  The very first time, I listened to the song, it was only my economics class but in a melodious manner. That reminded me o...

THE PIECE(PEACE) OF MIND

PEACE What is peace? If I put the question to a Hindu, he will quote the famous Shlokam, “Om Shanthi shanthi shanthi hi”. This statement means, let there be peace. Peace must be there even when times change. If there is no devotion, let there be devotion. If there is death, there shall be birth. If there is darkness let there be light. Everything will go in its due course. Whatever happens, let there be peace. The answer by a Christian would be,”It is one of the Biblical virtues”. Every Sunday mass will be characterized by the conveyance of peace to each other.  There is a hymn in Christian faith, “make me a channel of your peace”. Channel of peace literally means a instrument of peace. The very name Islam means peace. Peace is a great virtue in Islam. People who are cross with each other must make peace at least on the day of Ramzan by wishing Id Mubarak. Peace is a divine virtue. If it is not so, why religions have to speak about peace? Being so greatly influenced by th...

BAHUBALI FEVER

BAHUBALI FEVER: I had a visual treat the last Sunday. I watched the first part, two years back. We had been waiting two long years to watch this magnum opus. Almost all of us in our locality were struck with the ‘Bahubali Fever’. When people meet, they speak naught but only about “Bahubali”. The way the actors strived hard to bring out the best; costumes of the characters, the settings and the visuals.   Another thing that illuminated my thinking was the women characters in the movie. All the women are typical Indian women of the past. Right from Sivagami Devi(Ramya Krishnan) to Devasena (Anushka Shetty) to Sanga(Rohini). Defending themselves and being selfless mothers. After watching, I was reminded of the tri-aspects of the great psychoanalysts:  Jung and Freud. Sigmund Freud has given three qualities. Last Sunday I had a chance to watch the mass movie Bahubali. I found the Freudian tri paths in the characters. They are id, ego and super-ego. Id is the immediate ...

“ JALLIKATTU”         “Komatha engal kulamaatha” This means cow mother is our goddess. The word KO has multi fold meanings. Thevaneya Paavanar in his article titled Aavum Tamilarum puts forth the greatness of cows with language as a base. The name given for cows is ‘ko’. The term ‘Ko’ also means God. The name was assigned so because of the reverence and dignity the ancient Tamils had for the bovine creatures. Every Tamil must be familiar with Kadai ezhu vallalgal. These great generous kings served not only human beings but also other creatures. Paari Vallal magnanimously offered his throne to a creeper. Began, a great King gave a blanket to keep a peacock cosy. Ancient Tamil royals were eco conscious. Every Tamil teacher will take pride in narrating the tale of Manu Neethi Chozhan. At the court of Manu Neethi Chozhan, a ...

SPIRITUALITY

Today spirituality is a very famous aspect. India is all times a spiritual country, or else there would not be the idol of Pasupathy during Indus valley civilization. This was further proved when people valued other religions and got themselves involved in them. Further, it is assured with the visiting, of the people from western countries, the mutts and temples. People, a few believe in ghosts than in god. They feel that god is mere corollary of science and co incidence put to gather.  It is precisely the unawareness of the presence of the Holy Spirit. The presence of the Holy Spirit is reminded by the miracles that have occurred in myths and histories. To put in actual terms, I devote myself to history and automatically to God. The incidents that happened in the devotees of saints, deities and apostles ...
